Award-winning filmmaker, Kate Kroll is passionate about impactful story telling and unique subcultures. She is the recipient of the CMPA Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer award for her work on the Telefilm Indigenous Stream feature, Portraits from a Fire (Crave) which had a theatrical release on 13 screen across Canada in 2021.Kate began her career as a Post Production Supervisor at Brightlight Pictures and Gold Circle Films. In She went on to work as a Production Manager and Creative Producer at Make Believe Media (Very Bad Men, ID Discovery; The Nature of Things) and then eventually as a Production Manager, Line Producer, and Producer at Screen Siren Pictures (Canada in a Day, CTV; The New Corporation, TIFF 2020; Citizen Bio, Showtime; Rock n Roll Doc, BELL; Future Futures, CBC) and Line Produced five TV Movies with Reel One Entertainment.She has produced a variety of projects including No Fun City (Super Channel), Shi-shi-etko (Bravo, APTN), Shin-chi's Canoe (BravoFact!), the feature documentary, Path of Pilgrims (Vision TV), the Prism Prize nominated music video for Tanya Tagaq, and the Canada Council/NFB experimental film Rangwang: Burning for Freedom.Most recently, Kate produced CBC Gem digital series, Future Futures. Currently, she is in pre-production on a Telefilm funded documentary, Lunatic (Raven Banner Entertainment), and is in development on the horror comedy, Red Wings (EMA Films/Wazabi Films)Kate has garnered awards, grants, and mentorships from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media; Women in the Director's Chair; the DGC; WIFTV; Canada Council for the Arts; the NFB, and BravoFACT. Kate's work has screened at TIFF, VIFF, ImagineNative, DOXA; and has been broadcast on Bravo, Super Channel, Knowledge Network, Vision TV, APTN, and Air Canada. She recently a certificate in Entertainment Law from York University Osgoode Hall.Kate brings her many passions to all of her projects. She has traveled to over 35 countries, is an accomplished performance artist, a theatre producer, dancer, entertainment wrestler, and music nerd. She is always searching for new stories to tell, fascinating people to meet, keyholes into secret worlds to peer, and unique subcultures to uncover. She is president of her boutique production company, Black Moon Media.
