The role went to Christopher Walken instead. He was also considered for the role of The Joker in Batman (1989) and Max Shreck in Batmans Rückkehr (1992), but turned down the latter to appear in Twin Peaks - Der Film: Die letzten 7 Tage im Leben der Laura Palmer (1992). He turned down the role of Captain Hook in Hook (1991), which went to Dustin Hoffman. He was also seriously considered for the role of Sharaz Jek in Doctor Who: The Caves of Androzani: Part One (1984).
