Adolf H. Lundin was a pioneer in the oil and mining industry and his vision laid the foundation for the success of Lundin Petroleum, and many other companies in the commodities sector. For over 50 years he was engaged in mining and oil exploration in the world. He was one of the few Swedes early embarked in the oil industry.. Adolf Lundin was. born in Stockholm in 1933 and trained as a mining engineer at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). He got his first job at the oil company Shell, and was for some years based in Colombia in South America.. Since the 1970s, Adolf Lundin started and led a number of companies within the oil and gas sector. In 1981, Adolf Lundin founded the company International Petroleum Corporation (IPC) with exploration assets in the Middle East, Texas and the Bay of Biscay.. In 1997 IPC together with Sands Petroleum and formed Lundin Oil AB. After the merger, Lundin Oil reserves of 158 million barrels of oil producing assets in Malaysia / Vietnam and the UK as well as operations in six additional countries in different parts of the world. 1998 was named Adolf Lundin for "Best Swedish in the World" by Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf.. Lundin Oil's success story culminating in 2001 when the company is taken over by Talisman Energy in a deal valued at 470 million USD. In September 2006, Adolf Lundin passed away at age 73.
