Prior to joining Springvale, Alan held the position of STEM & Economic Adviser to Colleges Northern Ireland and represented the further education sector on a broad variety of industry and government bodies. In addition to his role as a member of MATRIX, the Northern Ireland Science Industry Panel, Alan also sat on Minister Farry’s working. groups on Advanced Manufacture and Agri-Food.. Between 2007 and 2009, Alan managed the Northern Ireland Review of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) on behalf of the Department for Employment and Learning and Department of Education.. Previous positions include Head of Research and Development with Bombardier Aerospace; Manager of the QUB Aerospace Centre of Excellence, Senior Development Engineer with the Outboard Marine Corporation, Chicago; and Production Control Manager with GEC Turbines. In 2009, Alan was elected to Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
