Before joining Tor Ekeland, P.C., Aaron served as an in-house attorney at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He counseled IEEE’s operating units on intellectual property issues, online privacy and information security compliance, commercial contracts, export control regulations, standards development, nonprofit compliance. issues, and more. He also managed litigation matters in cooperation with outside counsel.. Previously, Aaron worked for seven years as counsel to the Software Freedom Law Center, a nonprofit legal services organization that provides pro bono counsel to open source and free software projects and developers. At SFLC, Aaron had the privilege of representing several important community organizations, including the Apache Software Foundation, the Free Software Foundation, and the LibAV (formerly FFmpeg) project. He served as one of the lead attorneys in several lawsuits in the Southern District of New York to enforce the GNU General Public License on behalf of the Free Software Foundation and the developers of BusyBox. Aaron also advised SFLC’s clients on open source and free software licensing, IP registration and opposition matters, nonprofit incorporation and compliance, technology transfer agreements, Digital Millennium Copyright Act compliance, and related issues.. Education. Aaron studied law at New York University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2007. At NYU, Aaron co-founded the InfoLaw Society, which brought speakers and events related to technology law to NYU. He also served as an articles editor for the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy. He received his bachelor of science in computer science from Taylor University in 2002.
