She started singing at the age of 12, and began learning guitar at age 14. She and Vogel began to collaborate in October 2013 after finding each other on the Los Angeles Craigslist musicians section shortly after Van Buer relocated to Los Angeles. They released their debut album Hope On the Horizon in January of 2015.
