Amit Mehta

From 1998 to 2001 Dr Amit Mehta worked in the Telecommunications Industry in Bangalore, India and in Singapore. From July 2002 to February 2006 he worked at the University of Essex, in the Department of Electronics Systems Engineering. Since February 2006 he has been working at Swansea University where he is the Director of Antenna, Communication. and Smart City Laboratory. His core research focus is Intelligent Autonomous Communications, Adaptive Antennas, 5G, RF Microwave systems, Sensor and Smart Cities. He is particularly interested in body and vehicle communications, large scale mobile networks, communication signal processing on chipsets / Raspberry Pi / Micro Controllers, smart antennas, mm waves and sensor networks.. Dr Mehta has successfully supervised / supervising over 50 postgraduates (> 10 PhDs), has over 70 technical publications, 4 design rights and two patents on invention of steerable smart antenna and concealed weapons detection system. He is a regular key note speaker, session organizer and chair for a number of IEEE / Defence international conferences. Currently he is a reviewer member of EPSRC UK and undertakes regular peer review of leading journals such IEEE Transactions AP / MTT.. Dr. Mehta has strong industry-academic project engagements with both civilian and defence sectors (HP research laboratories Palo Alto, California, USA, BAE Systems UK, Ministry of Defence / DSTL UK, UK Home office, US Dept. of Home Land Security, etc). Dr Mehta has given a number of IEEE special seminars based on his leading research in various institutions including the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, University of Toronto, and National University of Singapore. Along with undertaking state of the art research Dr Mehta also endeavours to develop a high quality teaching curriculum. He was in receipt of the departmental best lecturer award in 2007 and believes that an outstanding teacher produces an outstanding researcher.
