Dziga Vertov was born on January 2, 1896 in Bialystok, Grodno Governorate, Russian Empire [now Podlaskie, Poland]. He was a director and writer, known for Der Mann mit der Kamera (1929), Drei Lieder über Lenin (1934) and Ein Sechstel der Erde (1926). He was previously married to Elizaveta Svilova. He died on February 12, 1954 in Moscow, RSFSR, USSR [now Russia].
