Kamal is the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and Associate Chief of Gastroenterology at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA. He is also Director of the Research Learning Pathway at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and a Clinical Assistant Professor (Affiliated) at Stanford Medical School.. Kamal obtained his MD. at Harvard Medical School and completed both his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Stanford. While at Stanford, Kamal also earned a Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology.
