As vice president, program management at Qualcomm Research, Áine Shivnan is responsible for operations and strategy management for research programs focusing on deep learning and robotics. In this capacity she works with engineers developing state-of-the art technologies with a particular focus on optimizations for space and runtime efficiency of. deep learning networks on embedded devices as well as autonomy, mobility and low-power for use in drones, services robots and automotive applications.Prior to joining Qualcomm in 2009, Shivnan served as vice president engineering at a number of telecommunications startups including NextWave Wireless where she led the WiMax basestation software development team and also at AirFiber which she co-founded, developing a free-space optical transmission platform for a carrier-grade ATM-based mesh network for dense urban areas.. Shivnan earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science from University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland. She serves on Qualcomm’s Women’s Leadership Council andis an active supporter of STEM through Qualcomm’s work withFIRST® Robotics Competition and as volunteer judge for 2017 FTC regionals.
