Atakan Çelik was born in 1942, on Turkey's border with Iranian, in Van, Ercis. While he was a primary school teacher, he won the exam held by TRT in 1966 and started to work as a Turkish Folk Music artist. He made 14 records and CDs. In 1973, he played a leading role in the movie Zalim Avci. In 1991, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Sanli Urfa State Turkish Folk Music Choir directed. He retired in 2005. He died in Ankara in 2007, unable to recover from the cancer he was caught.
