Achim Weber studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart. His doctorate thesis at the Institute for Physical Chemistry was on structural investigations of amorphous and fluid compounds by spectroscopic methods and was finished in 1999. After a postdoc at the Research Centre of Nucleic Acid and Peptide Chemistry at the University of Tübingen, in. 2000 he joined the Group of Biomimetic Surfaces at the Fraunhofer Institute of Interfacial Engineering & Biotechnology as a scientist and project manager, and the Institute for Interfacial Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2006 he is a Group Manager at Fraunhofer first in Biomimetic Functional Films, since 2009 in Particle-based Systems and Formulations. Since August 2011 he is deputy head of the department of Interfacial Engineering and Material Science at the Fraunhofer IGB. He is project coordinator of several EU- or other funding organizations funded projects. His main interest is the forming, processing, printing and understanding of smart and nanoscopic materials and its surfaces for applications in Pharmacy, Medicine, Environment, Materials and Biotechnology.
