Akram obtained his PhD in Chemistry from Caltech after double majoring in EE and Chemistry at UCLA. At Caltech, Akram was the co-discoverer of high performance silicon thermoelectrics. He then joined the faculty in the Materials Science Department at the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor. There his group made a breakthrough in the. manufacture of silicon thermoelectrics that led to seed funding from Khosla Ventures. Akram is now pursuing his dream of taking a laboratory discovery to commercialization as full-time CEO at Silicium
