In the 1990’s, Aleksandr set up a number of legal advice and banking businesses, including Bank Imperial. In 1993-1997, he was a founder and a board member of Sedmoi Kontinent (Seventh Continent) OJSC, a chain of supermarkets. In 1998-2001, he was the founder and shareholder of ALM Development. In 1998, Aleksandr was an advisor on economic affairs. to the Russian Presidential Administration. In 1999, he served as a counsellor to the Chief of the Russian Presidential Administration Aleksandr Voloshin.. In 1999-2002, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at MDM-Bank. In 2002-2005, Aleksandr was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Troika-Dialog Investment Company. In 2005-2006, he was member of the Board of Directors at Ingosstrakh OJSIC. In 2006, he set up SUP, which in 2007 acquired LiveJournal. In 2008, he bought 100% of Euroset shares from Yevgeny Chichvarkin and Timur Artemiev, 49.9% of which he later sold to VimpelCom. In 2009, he bought a 61% stake in Spar Moscow Holding. Since 2011,. he has been a NOMOS-BANK shareholder and the owner of Waterstones, a book retailer. In May 2013, he became Chairman of the Board of Directors at Rambler-Afisha-SUP.. Aleksandr Mamut is a graduate of Law Department of the Moscow State University.
