ALEXIS ROCHAS (BArch 02, Cooper Union) is the founder of STEREOBOT, a Los Angeles based practice focusing on the development of dynamic architectural methodologies integrating design, technology and advanced fabrication techniques. STEREOBOT brings together a powerful building technology, a bold design methodology and in-depth urban analysis to. introduce a fresh approach to Public Space development. Working alongside cities and partners, STEREOBOT develops innovative and agile urban programming opportunities inspiring urban communities: places for living, places for work, places for information, art, play, nature and education. Over the course of 2 years STEREOBOT urban and festival experiences have reached a cumulative audience of 3 million people. Recent commissions include: the 360Stage , a massive interactive performance space designed with VR capture in mind; Luminocity, a large scale public art masterplan and execution for the city of Detroit; The Loop, a 2 year urban activation for the city of Long Beach; and The Twilight, a towering all-around music stage for the Santa Monica Pier.. Alexis’ work has been exhibited at Coachella Music Festival (2017/2014/12), City of Detroit (2017), City of San Diego (2017), City of Long Beach (2016), City of Santa Monica (2016-2015), Petersen Museum (2015), Rock in Rio (2015), MOCA (2013), EDC Las Vegas (2013), ACE Museum (2011), 12th Venice Biennale (2010), Denver Biennial of the Americas (2010), SCIARC (2010), Beyond Media (2009), Florence, Italy; SFWF (2008); Wattis Institute (2006); A+D Museum NextGen (2006), Spot on Schools 2005, Florence, Italy; 2005 INDEX Awards, Copenhagen, Denmark; MAK Center for Art and Architecture(2005); TELIC(2005); Watts Towers Arts Center(2005); Sundown: Baroque Geode (2004); Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris, France (2002) in collaboration with Lebbeus Woods; and at the Bienal de Buenos Aires. His work has been published in a number of architectural journals including PLOT, Lotus, Monocle, I.D, Icon, 2G Dossier, Metropolis, Surface, Arquine, Architectural Record, Domus and Frame magazine.. A member of SCI-Arc’s design faculty since 2003, Rochas has headed projects through the Community Design Program, including the FAB Arts Market Temporal Gallery, LINC Housing community grounds prototyping, SCI-Arc’s Lecture Hall Acoustical Treatment, and the LAMP Community’s Sun Shelter Pavilion. Since 2006 Rochas coordinates the Making and Meaning program, Sciarc’s foundation program in Architecture. Most recently Rochas has helped establish the SCI-Arc ABROAD initiative, an itinerant educational program seeking to establish an active dialogue with talented and inquisitive students abroad.. He is the recipient of the Pinnacle Award in Public Space, the highest level of recognition granted by the International Downtown Association (IDA) and West Side Urban Forum Merit citation for his ‘The Loop’ project in Long Beach, CA. He is a finalist in the 2016 SXSW Eco competition and the 2010 NextGen Competition Runner-up for his OCTA.BOT project, as well as the recipient of the 2004 City of Los Angeles Design Award, the 2002 New York Society of Architects M.W. Del Gaudio Award for Excellence in Total Design, and the 1996 Award for Excellence in Design from the Architecture department of the University of Buenos Aires.
