Dr Adholeya leads the team on mycorrhizal research, micropropagation technology, and plant tissue culture and molecular biology.. He has been with TERI for the past twenty-five years and has significant experience and expertise in soil fertility, soil and plant microbiology, nutrient cycling, bioremediation using microbes and plants, bio-fuels,. mass production technology for mycorrhizae biofertilizer using transformed root organ cultures, molecular characterization and commercialization of mycorrhizal biofertilizers. Dr Adholeya's career has been largely devoted to finding and developing ways to harness the power of microbes, particularly mycorrhizae, to increase the productivity of crop plants and to restore degraded lands. At present Dr Adholeya is involved in the evaluation of micropropagation technology for varied cropping systems in India and around the world, especially in agriculture, horticulture and forestry, covering crops such as sugarcane, wheat, various vegetables, pomegranate and jatropa. Dr Adholeya has chaired numerous advisory committees on agriculture and bioremediation, and is an invited speaker at many international forums. Currently he chairs a major Task Force on Biological Agents in the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.. His work has been published in over 60 research papers in reputed national and international journals and he is also a member of editorial boards for many of them and also acts as an invited reviewer for several such reputed journals. He has guided 11 doctoral students and many masters' students to date and has been a visiting faculty of Deakin University, Australia since March 2010 .. Many awards and honours have come his way including the Gwalior Ratna in 2000, the Paryavaran Sanrakshan Samman (an award for protecting the environment) in 1999, Young Scientist Award in 1999, and the Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialization Award 2004 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.. Dr Alok Adholeya is a mycorrhizologist and bio-diesel expert with a Master's in Botany from Jiwaji University Gwalior, India, a Ph.D from the department of microbiology, G.B Pant, University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar and Jiwaji University, Gwalior, India and Post Doctoral from United States Department of Agriculture, Philadelphia, USA.
