Alvaro de Nicolas serves as BT’s TV & Sport Chief Technology Officer, within the Technology, Service & Operations division. In this role, he is responsible for the implementation of the company’s strategic Video technology and critical engineering objectives, as well as identifying emerging technology opportunities that enable BT to provide. cutting edge services and secure prevalence in the market through the effective use of advanced technologies.. In addition, Mr. de Nicolas oversees the development and integration of new video and TV products for the company, from conceptualization to implementation, as well as the design of mechanisms to enable customer feedback. He is also responsible for the integration, testing and deployment of the Content Management, User management & Client Development, Head End and Support systems across Retail and Wholesale TV consumers across all platforms. He has managed the development and rollout of the recent BT Sport channels across the various BT TV platforms (BT Vision, YouView, Digital Apps – Smartphones, Tablets and Computers --, SKY, Virgin Media and Digital Terrestrial Television) and the selection of appropriate frameworks and standards for internal technology development efforts. Mr. de Nicolas also plays an active role in developing and leveraging technologies through third party business relationships or acquisitions.. Previously, Mr. de Nicolas served as Vice-president of Professional Services at SeaChange International, Inc., a leading on-demand software/product company, where he spearheaded the transition of SeaChange from a hardware company to a software and services company, while helping to move the industry towards web centric, open standards-based solutions and architectures. Mr de Nicolas led teams across South East Asia, EMEA, and LATAM implementing their IPTV, Cable and Multiscreen strategies for a number of large Telcos and MSOs in those regions.. Prior to joining SeaChange, Mr. de Nicolas served Havas Media's CTO, where he was responsible for managing technical departments including Media Management, Trafficking, Internal Financial and Administrative Platforms, system integration, software quality and advanced network technologies. During his time in Advertising, Mr. de Nicolas spearheaded the implementation of an innovative Media Management System to manage inventory, adverts and media transactions across all platforms (TV, Radio, Print, Display, Digital, etc.) which provided a critical competitive advantage and was quickly followed by other industry players.. Mr. de Nicolas also served as a Senior Executive in Accenture and Imagine Broadband where he undertook the deployment of some of teh world first migrations from analogue to digital cable in a number of Operators around Europe and the US including Telewest, ntl, Cable & Wireless, Comcast, Liberty Global and others. He has been an active member of DVB and SCTE as well as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and holds a Masters of Science in Telecom Engineering and a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School.
