Daughter of Rev. John Scott Meredith and Sadie Clarke. First woman newspaper reporter for the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Virginia. Reporter at The Warren Sentinel, Front Royal Virginia, and the Star Gazette, Hackettstown, NJ. Married Hugh D Stevens and had a daughter Joan. While living in Front Royal area before their daughter was born, they had a Fresh Air Fund boy from New York City, this is where Jean got the idea for the story from. His name was Robert Peter Dugan, aka "Bobby".
