Abigail is currently part of the comprehensive team spearheading Texas Woman’s University’s efforts to combat sexual assault on college campuses. While one in five women are likely to be victimized, the campaign doesn’t focus only on them. Instead, they are working to eliminate sexual assault, point blank, and work with any survivors of such. experiences. And they’re not working alone, either - universities across Texas are taking part, as well as organizations unaffiliated with any place of higher education who want to join the conversation. It’s an inclusive movement, and one that seems tailored to Abigail, with her intensive background in policy and grant-writing.. Abigail Claire Tilton attended the University of North Texas where she received her bachelor's degree in Social Work in 1991. She immediately went on to get her master's degree in social work, graduating from the University of Texas a year later. During her time at the University of Texas, Abigail worked as a social worker at HCA-Lewisville Memorial Hospital and went onto become the program manager for the Skilled Nursing Unit. Using the experience she earned here as well as her education, Abigail Claire Tilton eventually went on to serve as the Founding Executive Directors of AIDS Services in North Texas. This position gave her the opportunity to work towards improving the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS and their families in various ways.. After doing this for six years, Abigail decided it was time for a change and took a teaching fellowship at the University of North Texas while working toward a doctor degree in sociology. This was when she made the decision to stick with teaching, and began pursuing a career in education at Texas Woman's University. As she climbed the ranks into an associate professor position, she was able to use her past experiences to become the Social Work Program Director, move up to Associate Dean, and then ultimately become the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
