Alexander MacLachlan

Former Senior Vice President for R & D and Chief Technical Officer, DuPont (retired). Former Deputy Under Secretary US Department of Energy. Dr. MacLachlan retired from DuPont in 1993 after more than 36 years of service. He was Senior Vice President for Research and Development and Chief Technical Officer since 1986. Prior to that he held. many management positions in research and business activities within the company, primarily in the areas of radiation and photochemistry. In 1994, he joined the U.S. Department of Energy as Deputy Under Secretary for Technology Partnerships (under President Clinton) and in 1995 was made Deputy Under Secretary for R & D Management. He left the Energy Department in 1996 but remained on the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board, Laboratory Operations Board, Sandia President’s Advisory Council and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Advisory Council until 2001.. He is currently president of the University of Delaware Research Foundation and is a Director of Millennium Cell, Inc., of Eatonton, New Jersey, a company devoted to producing hydrogen on demand for fuel cells.. He is a 1954 graduate of Tufts University with a B.S. in chemistry and a 1957 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry.
