Alex Steffen

Alex Steffen is an award-winning author, speaker and strategic advisor, who has spoken to audiences around the globe and advised many of the world’s most forward-looking companies, NGOs and public institutions.. Alex seeks and shares strategies for better understanding the planetary crisis we face, and using our new insight to improve the odds of. humanity thriving over the long-term, while we succeed and prosper today. His recent project, Carbon Zero: Imagining cities that can save the planet, is an exploration of the kinds of design, technological and policy innovations that could transform our cities into low-carbon engines of prosperity. Earth Day founder Denis Hayes says “Steffen may be the world’s boldest, most innovative thinker about future cities.”. Alex is currently Planetary Futurist in Residence at the design and innovation firm IDEO. From 2003 – 2010, he ran the pioneering sustainability and social innovation project: Worldchanging. Before that, he worked for almost a decade in newspapers and radio, covering planetary change on four continents, and launched a number of small projects. Alex lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
